The Department of Spine Surgery at SP Medifort Hospital and SP Fort Hospital is headed by Dr Ashok Thomas, Senior Consultant in Spine Surgery. Dr Ashok Thomas has more than 19 years of experience in Spine Surgery and has been an Exclusive Spine Surgeon since 2010. He is the First person in South Kerala to obtain the Superspeciality degree of FNB (Spine Surgery). Presently, FNB is the only Fellowship degree registrable for Spine Surgery under Medical Council of India.
He has extensive experience in Advanced Spine surgeries including Minimally Invasive Surgeries ('Key-Hole'), Microscopic spine surgeries for Disc prolapse, Spine fractures, Scoliosis Surgeries, complex reconstruction of spine, Surgery for spinal infections/ tumors.
He has been trained at various centres of National and International repute. Dr Ashok Thomas is the first Spine Surgeon in Southern half of Kerala to hold the Prestigious Superspeciality Fellowship Degree in Spine Surgery (FNB Spine Surgery) offered by the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi. FNB (Spine Surgery) is presently the only Fellowship degree recognized for registration by Medical Council of India in the field of Spine Surgery.
He is a frequent speaker at National and International conferences and has published scientific articles in International Spine journals and has also authored Text book chapters.
